Reddit emotion; Psycho-physical pain

Two mental health articles.

A Dartmouth study found that major depressive, anxiety, and bipolar disorders can be recognized by the emotions of Reddit posts; the posts can reveal an “emotional fingerprint” for a user. They didn’t examine the content, just the emotion–so the study is an incomplete look at emotional disorders in my opinion. Also, what about the bomb throwers and trolls? Online mass movements?

In another study, researchers at Harvard Kennedy School found that factors like trauma, anxiety, and stress can “create sensations of pain as real as those caused by physical injury or illness.” Using unemployment rates as a barometer, they discovered a 3-to-1 ratio between unemployment rate and the manifestation of physical pain. This shows how powerful the mind can be and that mental illness is itself a physical disease.
